is a mind-body exercise system developed by German-born Joseph Pilates.
Joe and his wife, Clara opened their first studio in 1926 in New York

How is Pilates practiced? Pilates
is a copmlex movement system that uses exercises performed in a mat
class and/or on special equipment developed by Joseph Pilates. It can
be done in a one-on-one, or group format. Staring Pilates in a
one-on-one setting allows you to learn necessary modifications for
exercises and enables you to develop a thorough understanding for the
basic principles.
Mat classes Mat
classes are very popular and easy to join. Using your own body weight
you learn classical strengthening and mobilizing exercises like the
Hundred, Single Leg Stretch, Swan, Spine Twist, etc. To join a mat
Pilates class, all you need is comfortable clothes.
Equipment classes Equipment
based Pilates requires special machines. Joseph Pilates designed several pieces of machinery: Reformer, Stability Chair, Cadillac,
Ladder Barrel and smaller props like the Magic Circle, Arc Barrel and
Spine Corrector.
